What happened to the Grange House in 1923?
Gardens and house were maintained to a high standard and further altered, but in 1896 after the property had passed to Heath's son the house was largely destroyed by fire. It was rebuilt, in 1923 becoming a hospital in which use it remained until the 1980s.

It would be inappropriate to take a dog there. BUT you are in luck - only a few feet away is Biddulph Grange Country Park. Dogs and owners VERY WELCOME. There is 73 acres of woodland, meadow and a large lake (where people often fish) for you and your dog to wonder through.

James Bateman was here for 30 years from 1842, and built the house as an Italianate villa and the garden, with the help of his friend, the famous marine artist, Edward Cooke.
