How do you care for Watsonia?
Water no more than 1" per week in hotter inland areas and less, or not at all in cooler summer areas along the coast. After weeks of eye catching late spring bloom, Watsonia will die back in early summer. No need to water them after they bloom. They are truly drought-tolerant plants!
What does Watsonia look like?
These lovely flowers rise on spikes from thick sword-like leaves about 18 inches (46 cm.) long. Flowers soar almost a foot (31 cm.) above the foliage and may be orange, red, pink, coral, white, or yellow.
How do I get rid of Watsonia?
- Dig out corms and remove flowering stems which carry bulbils (spring to summer).
- Bag and remove all corms and bulbils, or bag and remove all stems with bulbils.
- Wipe leaves with herbicide between flowering & fruiting (summer). In open areas away from tree roots and swamp vegetation, spot spray with herbicide.
